What a full cycle looks like

A warm shower to open the skin. Then the dry sauna for eight to twelve minutes — as long as the body takes comfortably, rather than as long as you can endure.

Out, cool down, and rest for at least as long as you spent inside. Only then a second round. Two or three rounds per visit is a sensible ceiling for most people.

Cooling down is not about comfort. In the heat the vessels widen and the pulse rises to roughly 100–120 beats per minute; cooling contracts them again. That alternation is the effect — not the sitting in the heat.

How the four differ

The Finnish sauna runs at 80–90 °C with low humidity. Dry air carries heat more slowly than humid air, which is why 90 °C is bearable here and would be impossible in a steam room.

The herbal sauna is gentler — around 45–60 °C at higher humidity, carrying essential oils. It suits people who find the Finnish sauna too much.

The salt steam bath sits at 40–45 °C and near-total humidity, with a fine salt aerosol. It hydrates the skin and eases breathing, which is why it comes into its own in the cold months.

The infrared bench warms the body directly rather than heating the air. It is the easiest of the four to tolerate and can be used longer — twenty to thirty minutes.

What to bring

Swimwear and flip-flops. A towel is essential — you sit on it rather than directly on the wood. Towels and robes can be hired on site for €2 and €3.

Do not go in straight after a large meal; leave an hour to an hour and a half. On a completely empty stomach is not a good idea either.

When not to go in

With a fever or an active infection, with uncontrolled high blood pressure, during pregnancy without medical clearance, and after drinking alcohol.

If you take heart medication, ask your doctor before a first visit. The thermal zone is also unsuitable for young children, whose temperature regulation works differently from an adult's.
